Mort Todd grew up in Maine, America's Official Spooky State, and skedaddled down to New York right after Yarmouth High School graduation. Before long he was working in comics, film and animation. Now Mort is returning to Vacationland for two events, the Maine Comic Arts Festival and the First Friday Art Walk, and has created two new Maine-related hero and monster pieces. These signed & numbered prints are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.
"PANIC IN PORTLAND" shows a panoply of powerful comic book heroes battling a gaggle of super-gangsters in front of the Time & Temperature Building on Congress Street (the veritable "Empire State Building" of Portland). Mort has worked on comics featuring some of the superheroes, including Superman and Spider-Man.

'MONSTERS MENACE MAINE" features a trio of titanic terrors in turmoil on Casco Bay before the landmark Portland Headlight. A certain giant radioactive lizard visits Maine to fight some local sea creatures; an overgrown lobster and octopus. Mort has had a long connection with monsters. As a kid, his name first appeared in print in the seminal Famous Monsters and he has created such magazines as Monsters Attack!, along with Monster Menace and Curse of the Weird for Marvel Comics.
After a long career in comics, film and animation, Mort started his own media company, Comicfix, in 2000. The company publishes comic books, produces animation and creates music videos and film projects. One of his titles, Sadistik, The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal, is being developed as an animated series with singer Iggy Pop providing the voice of the main character. While visiting Maine, Mort has created art and ad campaigns for WMPG and Nosh Kitchen Bar. He is also in pre-production on a crime drama series that would be produced and shot in Portland.
Since March, Mort has been splitting his time between New York and Maine and is looking forward to attending the 3rd Annual Maine Comic Arts Festival at the Ocean Gateway on Portland's waterfront on Sunday, May 22. Then, on June 3, Mort and his work will be exhibited at the First Friday Art Walk at the Nosh Kitchen Bar, 551 Congress Street. Mort will be selling the above prints at these events along with signed copies of his comics, original art and screen his film The Diabolikal Super-Kriminal.
"Panic in Portland" and "Monsters Menace Maine" prints are also available though mail order. They are signed and numbered by Mort, on a 100lb glossy cardstock and come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Each print is $15 (including shipping & handling), shipped in a sturdy mailing tube, or $25 for both. $2 of each print will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.
